Installation Technician Job Description



Installation technicians, also known as installation technicians, install, maintain, and update electronic equipment and computer hardware. Satellite and cable companies, electronics stores and other types of companies hire installation technicians to work full-time, mainly during daytime hours. Installation technicians go to customers' homes and workplaces to install and repair electronic devices of all kinds, working with little supervision. Installation engineers report primarily to a technical manager or department supervisor.

Duties and responsibilities of the Installation Technician

The daily work activities for installation technicians vary greatly depending on the type of equipment they are installing or repairing and the work environments they go to to perform these tasks. However, the main job duties performed by installers are universally the same despite these variables.

Install the electronics

The installers install all kinds of electronic equipment.

Solve problems

Installation technicians troubleshoot electronic equipment to isolate problems.

Make repairs

Installation technicians repair electronic equipment as needed, replacing devices or components as needed.

Talk to customers

Installation technicians talk to customers about where to place electronic and related cables, hear equipment problem descriptions, answer questions, and provide instructions for using new and improved equipment.

Check connections

Installation engineers check the connections and functionality of equipment to ensure proper installation.

Keep stock

Installation technicians maintain stock of their work vehicles by tracking inventory and ordering new supplies as needed.

Clean

Installation technicians clean up after the job is completed.

Vehicle maintenance

Installers maintain work vehicles by keeping them clean and refueled.
