How can I become a systems engineer?

Software developers usually have a computer science degree and a solid knowledge of computer programming.

education
Software developers typically have a bachelor's degree, usually in computer science, software engineering or a related field. A math degree is also acceptable. Computer courses are more common because they cover a wide range of topics. Students should focus on software development courses to better prepare for the job. For some positions, employers may prefer a master's degree.

Although writing code is not their priority, developers must have a solid understanding of computer programming. Usually they acquire this experience in school. Throughout their career, developers need to stay updated on new tools and computer languages.

Software developers also need knowledge of the industry in which they work. For example, developers working in a bank should have financial skills to understand a bank's processing needs.

Another experience
Many students gain experience in software development by completing an internship with a software company during their studies.

Some software developers work first as computer programmers, so they take on more responsibilities as they gain experience. Eventually they become developers.
