How To Become A Desktop Support Technician

Due to the wide range of skills used in different IT support jobs, there are many avenues for employment. A bachelor's degree is required for some specialized computer support positions, but an associate diploma or post-secondary lessons may suffice for others.

Education
The education requirements for IT support specialists vary. Specialized support jobs for computer users require some computer skills, but not necessarily a higher education diploma. Candidates who have attended some computer lessons are often qualified. For computer network support specialists, many employers accept candidates with an associate's degree, although some prefer that candidates have a bachelor's degree.

Large software companies that admit commercial users who buy their products or services often require a title. More technical positions probably require a degree in a field such as computer science, engineering, or computer science, but for others the candidate's field of study is less important.

To keep up with technological changes, many IT support specialists continue their training throughout their careers.

Certification
Certification programs are generally offered by vendors or neutral certification providers. Certification validates the knowledge and best practices required by IT support specialists. Businesses can request that their IT support specialists be certified for the products used by the businesses.
